Re: FOMO when switching to a dumb phone
I didn't switch to a dumb phone, but I did make some changes that have really helped my relationship with my phone. I still use it about 90 minutes a day, but most of that is spent reading, listening to music, or doing useful tasks like banking or navigation. None of it is spent doomscrolling ...

Re: Journaling Techniques
I throw everything into a single-subject college-ruled notebook. I go through about one a month.
On the back/final page, I list what's in the notebook. This list usually gets made as I'm using the notebook. This month's has entries for "to-do lists," "blog/article topics," "journal," "work stuff ...

Re: Endless scroll creep of smartphone apps really killed the smartphone for me.
Honestly, the only thing that saved the smartphone for me was leaving social media entirely, downloading NewPipe, and using an RSS feed reader for any news and blogs I still wanted to access.

Re: Nice and funny things that happened to you today
Not today, but: I run a high school library. I'm also on the marching band staff, so I see the band kids a lot.
Earlier this week, a kid walks in and shows me their latest 3D printing class project.
I say, "...is that a 3D printed piccolo trombone?"
The kid lights up and says "YES! Thank you ...

Re: Finding New Music
I have long relied on college radio stations for this. My current favorite is WIDR, which comes out of Western Michigan University and recently won a bunch of awards:

There's also Radio Garden, which gives you access to radio stations from around the world:

Re: Bullet Journaling & Fountain Pens
I tried bullet journaling years ago, but at the time it felt both too busy and not robust enough for my needs. I might try it again, though, since I'm in a completely different career/situation now.

Re: What phone are you using?
I currently have a Sony Xperia 10iii running Sailfish OS. I considered switching to a dumbphone, but I travel enough and have weird enough dietary needs to be uncomfortable not having access to search in my pocket. This also allows me to change my tickets on the go if I need to (and I often do ...

Re: Favourite quirky "feature" in a book?
Not sure it's exactly what you mean, but for me it has to be The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak:

The Cloud Firewall extension for Firefox is funny (but not)
I installed the Cloud Firewall extension for Firefox today. It allows you to block sites that come from Amazon, Apple, Cloudflare, Google, Facebook, and/or Microsoft. (you can toggle which in settings)
