What's something that annoys you about the modern Internet?

I'll go first.

- You search for a "how-to" on a technical issue on your computer.
- You get a list of options, and decide to pick one.
- You get to methods 1,2,3 and they seem fine, you've seen this on other websites...then you see the 4th method...
- It says, use [Insert Tech Software here] to fix your solution right away!
- "That's.. oddly specific, weird."
- You move your mouse to hit the back arrow, but before you do.... you see it. The article was written by [Tech Software] on the [Tech Software] website...

This has happened to me so many times, and it pretty much just makes the "how-to" issue into an ad for their product.

This also annoys me to no end, to be honest. I will say I do usually spot the name of the website before I spot the product they're promoting so it becomes something more of a "oh of course they did that", but it still is grating sometimes.
In terms of actually answering the question with my own input, the first thing that came to mind was the fact that Google search, on top of Gemini taking the top spot of the search list, now has a separate tab specifically for short-form content. I do know this is very much a minor grievance, but I do worry that Google is trying to suck as many people as possible into the doomscrolling black hole like the social media titans of today.
And another, even more minor thing: you search far and wide for a functional download link to an older, discontinued program, only to find websites that say "download now" and just redirect you to the original official page for said older, discontinued program, which - big shocker - doesn't let you download this older, discontinued program.

Breaking the back button. There are so many Website which route you through these god dam sites that instant redirect you, meaning you can't use the Return functionality as easily. Either spamming or going through the return History are the only way. Worst offender being Microsoft. But I absolutely hate that for research and Browsing. It absolutely pisses me off.

Other thing I dislike is that more and more Website become incredibly resource intensive for little to no benefit, with locally running scripts that do some predictive feed stuff. While it is just a simple News Website, which does not need it.

The fact that it never ends. Back then I'd jump on my computer after a long day and check out what was going on. My feed was something like 20 posts long, of people that I knew, and I felt like I was keeping up to date with whatever was going on at the time.

Nowadays, something like one out of six posts are from people that I know, and even then, It's probably some random story of whatever lunch they had.

Infinite scroll and ease of access 24/7 has genuinely killed that aspect for me. Were my friends always posting stuff like that? Sure, but that's not the issue. I miss when posting required actual effort. It meant that every picture you saw online was taken with a camera/phone, someone got home, transferred that picture to their computer, and then made a post about it. That whole process alone filtered a lot of low-effort or meaningless content. You'd still see it, but much less often.
